Summary Plan Descriptions
ERISA requires almost every employee benefit plan to have a summary plan description (SPD) and to furnish copies to each individual entitled to the benefit. The Department of Labor indicates that the SPD is the primary vehicle that informs the participants and their dependents about their benefits, as well as their rights, under the employee benefit plan.
Many insurance companies only provide a benefit description, not the required summary plan description. The summary plan description is the responsibility of the employee benefit plan. Let MEBS lend their expertise and their compliance reputation to you and allow us to provide you with an all inclusive SPD that not only is a valuable tool to your employees, but a valuable compliance tool for your organization.
